How to Decide — Fifty Under (content sections)
How we work together

First, we see if it’s a good fit.

It starts with a conversation. Before anything else, we work with you — the farmer — to figure out whether ground-source heat pumps are a good solution for your operation. Together we look at your site, your heating and cooling loads, and the economics, and we give you an honest read. If geothermal isn’t the right fit, we’ll tell you.

If it is a good fit, the next step is yours. Based on what works best for your operation, we’ll help you decide how to move forward — owning the system yourself, or entering into a Geothermal-as-a-Service agreement with us. Whichever you choose, we handle the hard parts: the design, the drilling, the credits, and the decades of operation that follow.

1
Step one · together

Is geothermal a good fit?

We work with you to find out whether ground-source heat pumps are the right solution for your operation — your site, your heating and cooling loads, the savings against conventional fuel, and the incentives available to you. It’s a collaborative look, under a mutual NDA. If it’s not the right fit, we’ll say so.

2
Step two · your call

Own it, or go with GaaS?

If geothermal is a good fit, the choice is yours. Based on what works best for your operation, we’ll help you decide between owning the system outright or entering into a Geothermal-as-a-Service agreement with us. The difference is who owns the asset and who provides the capital.

Once geothermal is a good fit, here’s how the two paths compare.

The financing decision

Own it, or buy it as a service.

Two ways to fund the same system. The right one depends on your balance sheet and your goals.

Where to start

Start with the first question.

You don’t have to decide how to pay for a system before you know it’s worth building. We start where every project starts — with whether geothermal pencils for your site. The financing conversation comes after, once the investment stands on its own.

Not sure where you land?

Tell us about your operation and we’ll run the first question with you: does geothermal make sense here? If it does, we’ll walk you through owning it versus taking it as a service — and help you fund whichever path you choose.
